PROJECT SUMMARY

Funded by the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the KIDSS project aims to provide holistic and sustainable care for orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) by strengthening the capacities of the Government of the Republic of Cameroon (GRC), civil society organizations, communities and households to provide quality care and support to children and their families infected and affected by HIV.

KIDSS currently partners /collaborates with the Government of Cameroon and other stakeholders to reach OVC and their families in 40 health districs across all the regions of Cameroon. The program includes prevention and case finding activities for OVC,  community support to enable linkage to care of infected children and adolescents, as well as to improve retention of children and adolescents living with HIV who have been enrolled into care and treatment.

Following the transition plan, the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (NECC) in its aspiring oversight management responsibility (under the shadows of CRS) for the East and Adamawa regions, therefore seeks to recruite a driver / messenger whose job description is as seen below.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Zonal Coordinator, the driver / messenger will drive the official project vehicle assigned to him in a good state, collect and distribute mail, documents or other items to NECC’s partners and other stakeholders of the KIDSS project in the East and Adamawa regions. He will be required to maintain confidentiality and integrity for all project activities as directed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive the KIDSS project vehicle.
  • Collect and distribute mails, documents or other items to NECC’s partners and other stakeholders of the KIDSS project.
  • Ensure daily maintenance of the project vehicle by checking the oil, water, battery, brakes and tyres.
  • Make minor repairs in case of breakdown.
  • Take provisions for major repairs and follow up that they are done.
  • Ensure that the project vehicle is clean at all times.
  • Record official trips and mileage consumed in the log book.
  • Maintain the vehicle’s technical data sheet (dates to renew insurance, do technical visit, change oil etc) and follow up that it is updated.
  • Equip the first aid box and guarantee the availability of basic spare parts.
  • Ensure that all the formalities needed by relevant authorities in the event of an accident are accomplished.
  • Perform any other related duties that do not exceed the abilities and skills assigned by hierarchy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education and Experiencep

  • Holder of at least First School Leaving Certificate. GCE Ordinary Levels or GCE Advanced Levels or their equivalents or even higher certificates will be a considerable advantage.
  • A diploma / certificate in automobile mechanics would be a plus.
  • At least a driving license B.
  • A minimum of two years' experience as driver of officials in an international institution, governmental organization, with an excellent knowledge of the local traffic rules, regulations and geography of the East and Adamawa regions.

Competencies

  • A practical and technical knowledge of maintenance.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations for driving vehicles.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a complex enviroment.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

Personal Skills

  • Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated team player.
  • Ability to work in multicultural enviroments.
  • Good human contact and interaction with staff (Politeliness)

Required/Desired Language : Must be bilingual with a working knowledge of English and French. Fluency in either English or French or in both languages is a plus.

Travel Required (include percentage of required travel, if applicable): 75% travel within Cameroon

Key Working Relationships

  • Reports to: Zonal Coordinator
  • Internal: All KIDSS /NECC zonal staff
  • External:  Staff of KIDSS/NECC’s partners.
